Our Trustees

Drew Richardson-Walsh (Chair of the Board and Senior Independent Director)

Drew leads the education practice team at Peridot Partners – an executive search firm working with clients in the education, charity, health and care, and social enterprise sectors.

His previous experience included senior leadership roles in the further education and charity sectors. He has been involved with Mowbray Education Trust for around ten years, and feels privileged to lead a talented and committed board of trustees.

Linda Arnold (Vice Chair and Senior Independent Director)

Linda is an experienced senior leader in education, although she started her career in engineering working in a range of industries.  A career change resulted in Linda training as a teacher and taking up posts in a variety of secondary schools in increasingly senior roles with particular focus on leadership of teaching and learning and curriculum.

Now retired Linda remains active volunteering with several local community groups and charities.

Richard Leighton

Richard is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales with a background in business transformation.

After starting his career in Deloitte's financial due diligence team, Richard has worked for private equity funds investing in companies across a broad range of sectors, supporting management teams to make transformational changes to their organisations. Richard has also been Chief Financial Officer of a national home improvements business where he was responsible for driving through a change in overall strategy centred around customer experience and quality, leading to improved financial and operational performance.

Alice Herring 

Alice Herring is an experienced HR Director having worked across multiple sectors and is currently the HR Director for Arriva UK Bus. She is a Fellow of the CIPD and has a Commerce degree from the University of Birmingham. Alice is motivated to support the Trust and its values and joined in September 2024.

Laura Shepherd

As the Director of Strategic Partnerships and External Relationships at Loughborough College, Laura has responsibility and oversight for Business Development, Marketing and Communications, Student Recruitment, International and Careers and Enterprise. Her previous role was at the Cabinet Office as Head of Commercial.

Her career includes experience in local Government, community and voluntary sector development and consultancy work; supporting employability, skills and education providers to access Government funding. 

Suzanne Kane

Suzanne has enjoyed a career in Estate, Facilities and Property working in local government, further and higher education and more recently the independent school sector; working at a strategic and operational level, and is a Fellow of the IWFM (Institute of Workplace & Facilities Management).

She is driven to ensure that education estates provide safe and secure environments for children and all staff and believes that the school environment should be a place where children flourish and thrive in a welcoming environment.

Isabel Bentley

Susan Ambler

As Chief Financial Officer for the University of Derby, Susan has been involved in finance, audit and risk for Higher & Further Education for over 22 years. Prior to this, she worked in industry and qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in Nottingham. 

Outside of work, Susan sits as a trustee on several charity boards, including both Finance and Audit & Risk committee roles. She is heavily involved in local Scouting and has previously sat as a chair for a primary school. 

Peter Dundas

Peter is a retired Chartered Accountant who qualified in 1979 with Price Waterhouse before moving into industry and commerce, leading to senior director positions in FMCG businesses specialising in change management in cash constrained situations.

In retirement, Peter has held voluntary roles which include governance positions at the University of Leicester, a business mentor for young entrepreneurs at the Kings Trust and is currently Chair of Trustees for a Leicestershire foodbank.
