Year Of Reading
This year, with the help of Mrs Newman, we have launched the Year of Reading across the Trust. Take a look below for more information!
The Year of Reading involves a wide range of activities and initiatives to promote a passion for reading and encourage participation for all of our students.
Below we have detailed some of the fun-filled initiatives taking place; be sure to keep your eye out for updates on John Ferneley College’s Social Media pages - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Reading Rampage
Year 7 and 8 pupils at John Ferneley College are taking part in a county-wide project called “Reading Rampage” through their English lessons. There are 10 books in the scheme, and we have launched a competition between English classes to see who can read the most between now and June! Our reading ambassadors will be promoting this during assemblies along with other mini-projects.
Reading Ambassadors
Along with promoting reading for enjoyment across the school and the local community, our reading ambassadors at John Ferneley College will help to organise book-themed activities, competitions and quizzes. They will also be getting involved in paired reading, author events and sharing their recommended reads.
Book of The Week
Look out for the Book of The Week which will be promoted on student daily messages and social media.
Competitions and Quizzes
We also have several competitions underway, including the Who Wants to be a millionaire reading competition. This involves using the Accelerated Reader online programme to see which students can read 1 million words before the end of the year! There is also a Potato Character competition taking place this Spring Term - send your book-themed potato characters to John Ferneley College's social media pages to enter!
